About Us
Dougal joined Providence Saint Joseph Health in September 2018, having come to the organization from Presence Health where he most recently served as Chief Officer for Mission and External Affairs. His current accountabilities include leadership of mission integration, sponsorship, spiritual health, formation, theology and ethics, community commitment, and domestic and global engagement. Previously Dougal has served with Bon Secours in Richmond, Virginia, and with Eastern Mercy Health System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He has pursued post-graduate studies in community health and architecture at the University of Miami and has a Master of Arts in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts in modern history and international relations from the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland. Dougal also has a certificate in ethics from Georgetown University and a certificate in integral leadership from the University of Notre Dame.
Over several decades Dougal has developed and shaped the function of mission integration from the acute-care facility environment to engage physician practices, ambulatory settings and beyond. He has supported various models of sponsorship, including a new public juridic person. During his years with Presence Health in Chicago, Dougal built a systemwide leadership formation program, and he has designed, delivered and facilitated corporate compliance and ethics education. He has also facilitated multiple community visioning and engagement initiatives. Dougal has established and implemented effective models of spiritual health services, and he has created and implemented a system-wide community benefit reporting program. Dougal has served on boards of many organizations, and currently is on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Health Association of the United States, the Well Being Trust, The Saint Joseph Community Investment Fund & Hospitaller Brothers Healthcare.
A creative and effective leader with significant experience in advancing organizational mission through values integration, he is recognized for his ability to build strong, resilient internal and external relationships. Dougal is committed to leading and sustaining Providence St. Joseph Health, and the Catholic healthcare ministry, in ways that help individuals and communities to flourish.
